CEDUNA - PORT AUGUSTA - ADELAIDE

Definitely not a healthy breakfast, but a breakfast that says "I'm on holiday  and diet starts on Monday":

Good morning! From Hahndorf, a little German settlement near Adelaide:

It's a shame we threw away the 2L milk bottle - we could have filled it with port!

Commemoration for the pioneers in Hahndorf:

As you could have guessed, Hahndorf has the biggest collection of German cookook clocks in South Australia:

And you cannot not have a German beer while in Hahndorf!

It did not take long for us to return to the bach at the beach - tired of sightseeing and ready to just "chillax".

ESPERANCE - MADURA - CEDUNA

Esperance - the most beautiful beaches in the world can be found here.

The highlight of Esperance was seeing old friends again and 2 nights just didn't seem long enough! 

Dankie Anita en Wynand vir jul gasvryheid, liefde en al die bederf! Dit was so lekker om julle, Stefan, Christine en Zoe weer te sien. Baie voorspoed, geluk en vreugde vir die nuwe jaar!

Note to self: surely by now you MUST know - when you slip, slop, slap and you miss a spot - you can get a thong ("plakkie") tan... When will I ever learn...?!

On the way to Madura we stopped at Balladonia for a coffee break.

One of two things occurred: either there are less flies than the last time we were here or we are now just accustomed to having flies crawling on our face, mouth, ears and nose. But the message was clear - the flies were there for "revengance":

We finally arrived in Eucla, approximately halfway:

So what is so interested about the picture below (found in the Eucla roadhouse, you ask? 

...let me zoom in for you:

Hint: zoom in on the sign saying to disregard the expiry date on all dairy product because they have been frozen. The microbiologist in me just had to take a photo... Do they not realise that freezing dairy only preserve the bacteria that they think they have killed now? - lol!!

South Australia - here we come!

Apparently one of these is the biggest windmill in Australia...

Probably not the one below hahaha!:

Ceduna - THE place to have oysters. They are in fact as good as they are bragged about!

What a perfect ending to a perfect day!

ALBANY - ESPERANCE

We had such a great time in Albany and already regret not staying longer, but it was time to continue the trip to beautiful Esperance. 

There is no way you can drive all the way without stopping to dip a Ouma and have a bite of droëwors

The scenery at times reminded us of the good old Free State back in South Africa, except for the 48 degree Celsius heat! We did not know where the thermometer would stop going up, but we decided if it hit 50 we were going to stop, get out of the car and feel how it feels, just so we could say we know how it feels. Luckily it started to cool back down below 48...!

Don't think the strong Northerly wind was cooling - it just created an overall furnace around us

The highlight of the day was seeing old friends again and seeing their children all grown up! Thank you for your hospitality and kindness. 

And of course it was great to see Zoe again, the cutest Dachshund ever.

There are always a few interesting sites...

 This was at Lucky Beach at Esperance where the sand was so compact, we were able to drive on the beach. We also saw Kangeroos on the beach - what an awesome site!

The water is an amazing colour and even with it cooling to a nice 25 degrees C today, the water was awesome to take a quick swim - against my normal rules, but I knew I would regret it if I didn't take a chance there and then.
